We were all part of the jigsaw and he could put all the pieces together. The soundtrack of The Favourite consists mostly of baroque and classical music, including pieces by W.

Bach , Handel , Purcell , Vivaldi , and Schubert. Much of the music that appears to be contemporaneous with the time in which the film is set was composed later; for example, Bach's organ Fantasia in G minor, Schubert's Piano Trio no.

The website's critical consensus reads, " The Favourite sees Yorgos Lanthimos balancing a period setting against rich, timely subtext—and getting roundly stellar performances from his well-chosen stars".

In his review for Entertainment Weekly , Chris Nashawaty gave the film an "A" rating, praising the effective presentation of themes dealing with royalty and associated "steamier, fact-adjacent subplots".

He wrote, "It's worth pointing out that The Favourite is easily Lanthimos' most user-friendly movie, which isn't to say it isn't strange enough to please his fans, just that it may also convert a legion of new ones".

It's a bawdy, brilliant triumph, directed by Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos with all the artistic reach and renegade deviltry The Favourite belongs to its fierce, profanely funny female trio.

It has plenty of satirical bite, and its plot structure the roller-coaster-like power struggle between Abigail and Sarah is an utter blast".

Conversely, Armond White of the National Review described the film as "period perversity," comparing it unfavourably to Stanley Kubrick 's similar period drama Barry Lyndon.

He wrote, "If Kubrick's 17th-century-set Barry Lyndon flaunted all his resources of cinematic expertise merely to satirize chilly inhumanity, making an evil masterpiece, then The Favourite is merely a wicked stunt.

The Favourite has received multiple awards and nominations, and won two Venice International Film Festival awards: the Grand Jury Prize and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress.

It was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards , including Best Picture , and was ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top 10 films of Colman won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Lanthimos said, "Some of the things in the film are accurate and a lot aren't". Arguments both for and against the possibilities have been discussed by scholars of the era.

Historians consider it unlikely Anne was physically intimate with her female friends. Sarah Churchill , who is erroneously referred to in the film as 'Lady Marlborough', had become Duchess of Marlborough in She is known to have tried blackmailing Anne with the threat of publishing private letters between them; this has led some to wonder if the letters contained evidence the two women had a sexual relationship.

I think people turn up to the rehearsal period thinking maybe they should've read their history books and thought about their characters and their intentions and all of that stuff that you normally think about but Yorgos made it quite clear early on there wasn't going to be much consideration for historical accuracy to a degree.

He wasn't too caught up with or concerned about that. He just wanted us to have fun as people, as a cast and to explore the relationships between us, which is what we did.

In his review of the film, Anthony Lane comments on its anachronisms, saying; "For Lanthimos and his screenwriters Kinnard wrote for PopMatters :.

History records that England was ruled for a brief period in the early 18th century by Queen Anne whose physical infirmities were rivalled only by her psychological quirks.

She was indeed counseled by her lifelong friend and perhaps lover, Lady Sarah Churchill [ sic ] Finally, there was a chambermaid named Abigail Masham The rest is left to the sordid imagination of one of the world's most fascinating filmmakers.

Queen Anne was close to Prince George, Duke of Cumberland died October , her Danish husband, who was not portrayed in the film but was alive for most of the time covered.

Emma Stone as Abigail Hill. Rachel Weisz as Sarah Churchill. D boy My favourite film has to be The Matrix. Even though it was made back in , it still feels really modern.

One day he is contacted by a woman who introduces him to a very strange man: Morpheus. Morpheus explains to Neo that what he thinks of as real is actually fiction and the world is run by evil machines who have imprisoned and tricked the human race.

Laurence Fishburne is terrific as Morpheus, and Keanu Reeves is excellent, but the best thing about the film is the special effects. I can watch it again and again.

E girl Let the Right One In is my favourite film. There are two versions, the first is Swedish and the second American — I prefer the original, Swedish version.

Oskar is a young boy with a lot of problems. He is being bullied at school and wants revenge on the bullies. Then some new neighbours move in next door and he becomes friends with Eli, a beautiful but strange girl.

My best film series is naruto, an anime of Japan. It is about the main character, Naruto, tries to become Hokage, despite everyone's prejudice. The series has two part: Naruto and Naruto Shippuden The next series has also very interesting is Boruto.

I'm following the supernatural horror serial film - Annabelle that has three-part. The film was inspired by a story of a haunted doll named Annabelle.

It is taken a series of paranormal activities occur around the main characters. There were lots of blood, scary images, plus some jump-shock moments, shooting, fighting, and dead bodies.

I was impressed by all scenes and sounds in the film. I have been horrified until now. I think many people have already seen it and they now wow its a good film.

The last movie I saw is "the kissing booth". It tells the story of teenage first love and is full of , friendship and good vibes that make it a nice film.

I love many movies, and I liked Pixar and Disney's 'Onward'. It was released recently, and I loved the graphics, stories, and the topics.

It's about the elf brother who got the opportunity to make their dead father alive. But accidently they brought only their dad's legs, so they go journey to find the other phinix gem to bring their father's whole body too.

I cannot write all the plot here, 'cause it is spoiler. The queen is a little addlepated upstairs and so requires some hands-on coaching, and so inadvertently setting up the battle to be her "best friend" in court.

Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone are killer as the main event, but Olivia Coleman's Queen is like looking at one of those will-you-feed-this-hungry-child infomercials they show overnight.

Wicked badger. Kevin M. W Super Reviewer. Jan 22, Prestige cinema indeed! The Favourite is a period drama about two women feuding over the affections and favor of the long suffering and mercurial Queen Anne.

It is essentially Barry Lyndon with a dash of the Coen Bros, in that we get a Kubrick-esque perfectly framed rendition of eighteenth-century aristocracy, but with plenty of dark comedy and offbeat humor along the way.

The reason to be here, of course, are our two leading actresses, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone. Weisz plays Sarah, the Duchess of Marlborough husband of the Duke of Marlborough, the famous British soldier , while Stone plays her disgraced cousin Abigail, attempting a climb back up the social ladder.

Sarah is the more established, masculine, and business-oriented rival, while Abigail is the more playful, effeminate, and underhanded contender.

When you play the Game of Thrones The Favourite is perhaps the best shot film of the year and I wasn't kidding with the Barry Lyndon comparison earlier.

Both and indoor and outdoor scenes appear naturally lit, and there are many moments where only dim candlelight illuminates the cavernous and ornate rooms which dwarf our subjects.

Every image is presented as a painting, which often frames the characters against other works of art - presenting them as both a masterpiece and caricature of themselves and the period they represent.

Director Yorgos Lanthimos is known for his offbeat and controversial films The Lobster and Killing of a Sacred Deer and this is perhaps his most conventional film to date, but don't let that label mislead you.

It's a still a serious picture that intends to challenge you. Both Weisz and Stone are goddamn perfect and deserve every statue thrown their way.

But I'd be remiss not to mention Olivia Colman as Queen Anne. Colman plays Anne as borderline autistic and manic-depressive and avoids hamming up her performance, which would have cheapened the film.

This film gets a lot of mileage out of the theme that royal "favourites" were essentially prostitutes sexual or not , who shaped the course of history, for better or for worse.

The ending is a bit bizarre and may irk audiences with its abstract nature. I understood its symbolism, but it was truly an odd choice.

Either way, The Favourite is the best period drama of and among the more interesting dramas in recent memory. Joshua S Super Reviewer. See all Audience reviews.

11/20/ · It would be unwarranted to define “The Favourite” as a timely feminist film with regards to its handling of female power in a male-dominated world. And yet, there is a certain timelessness in its old-fashioned frankness about a woman’s fight to get what she wants and demand what she deserves by any means necessary; brains, sexual appeal.
